NOLApotteryclasses.com puts the fun into being a grown up. It is a pottery teaching studio at 2013 Metairie Road nestled safely in the heart of Old Metairie. Besides housing the teaching studio it is also home to SinistraStudio.com, a national pottery wholesale business owned and operated by veteran potter Kate Tonguis. We host day and evening classes for all levels of students. Our number one goal is to allow you to have a great time while learning the ways of clay. Classes meet once a week for 2-3 hours depending on class day and time. There are a total of four classes per month. Tuition is $125 per month for two-hour classes, $150 for two and a half hours, $175 per month for three-hour classes. Your tuition includes your use of tools, equipment, supplies, glazes, electric firing and instruction. Clay is an additional charge at $18 for a 25 lb. bag that lasts a beginner about two months. You purchase classes by the month and clay when you need it. We view our classes as ongoing adult education. You can continue to expand your knowledge of clay for as long as you like. |

Raku classes will be held at my home in Lakeview. They are private lessons. The class will include set-up of the raku kiln and firing of your own work. You will need to get approval on your pieces before we book your class.
I am planning on doing this on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings for our day classes. For our night classes we'll figure out a mutually convenient time.
The tuition is $125 for three hours of hands on instruction. The number of pieces varies greatly depending on size - the bigger the piece the longer it takes to fire. If I'm doing small pieces like bud vases I can fire three at a time. Normally I can do 8-15 small pieces in that time period.
Please email me if you are interested and we will discuss what you need to do to prepare for this. Note that you will need to tie your hair back, leave your jewelry at home, wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Please wear a cotton shirt.
